Music
of the Reformation
The
Protestant Reformation resulted in a wealth of new music “for the people”.
In the program, we explore the French, English, and German traditions of
metrical psalm settings, chorale and hymn tunes, culminating in the motet of J.
S. Bach, Jesu Meine Freude.
Vox
is joined by guest artists Debra Lonergan (viola da gamba/baroque cello) and
John Repulski (organ) for this program.

Music from San Marco

sounds and splendor of 16th century Venice come alive!
Vox will present an exciting program of Christmas music from masters of
San Marco, the center of Venetian musical life during the Renaissance.

Pre-concert discussion will be led by David Kidger, music history teacher
at Oakland University and a renowned scholar on the music of the
Venetian master, Adrian Willaert.

Palestrina
Redux: Vox's Fifth Anniversary Program
Help us celebrate our fifth anniversary!
One of Vox’s first concert performances included the famous Missa Papae
Marcelli of Palestrina. So, to
celebrate, we will present this program centered on the music of Palestrina, the
“Prince of Music”, as well as his lasting influence on subsequent
generations of composers.
